What is that Stuff? Cumin Seeds

Dried and toasted cumin seeds
Cumin is so popular in our household, that it didn't even occur to me to write about it.  This special seed spices up just about anything, and lends an aromatic quality to even the simplest of recipes.  I like to add toasted cumin to my rice and also to fresh cucumber salads.  In India, it is also used in desserts.  My Jaya Mummy makes sweet-and-sour tamarind balls for me with cumin.  The next time you make chili (which should be soon this time of the year), roast and grind your own cumin seeds.  I guarantee you will never buy it pre-ground again.  Click here for toasting tips.
