Mahleb Spiced Kamut Porridge with fresh dates

3 cups water, boiling
1 cup kamut
1 1/2 mahleb, ground
small handful of pistachio nuts, chopped
small handful of fresh cranberries
4 fresh dates, sliced
1/4 cup coconut shreds
1 tsp ghee/clarified butter 
milk TT
unrefined sugar TT

Bring the water to a boil.  Add the kamut grains, cover and cook over low heat for 1 1/2 hours.

Add the mahleb, pistachio nuts, cranberries, fresh dates and coconut shreds to the porridge and re-cover.  Simmer for an additional 30 minutes.  Add the sugar, butter and milk to the pot and serve hot.

Pit Stop- Fresh Farms International Market

Fava beans, garbanzo beans, long beans and Indian beans
Whenever I get a hankering for some new-to-me produce, a trip to Devon Ave. is in order.  Don't get me wrong, I buy 95% of my produce from local farmers, but curiosity towards foreign produce always gets the best of me.  Two of my favorite haunts in Chicago's Little India are the Patel Brother's spice store and Fresh Farms International Market.

The ginger was some of the freshest I've ever seen and I even found fresh peanuts...Guess who's making homemade peanut butter this week!  This is what I came home with:

long beans, ginger 
star fruit, fava beans, bread fruit
prickly pears, peanuts, garbanzo beans, tamarind
cantola, kahlal dates
